Iconic trombonist Harold Betters will perform at 7 p.m. Friday on the Foxburg Green as part of the first Foxburg Jazz Fest.

FOXBURG — Allegheny RiverStone Center for the Arts brings a weekend of jazz to town today through Sunday.

An impromptu jazz jam will begin tonight at 7 p.m. at Lincoln Hall, 92 S. Palmer St. Musicians are invited to "sit in" and play a set.

Featured at 7 p.m. Friday on the Foxburg Green, 15 Main St., will be the iconic trombonist Harold Betters. He has performed with Louis Armstrong, Al Hirt, Slide Hampton, Ramsey Lewis and Urbie Green. The Harold Betters Quartet toured with Ray Charles and appeared with comedian Dick Gregory at New York's Apollo Theater.

Scheduled to play at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Foxburg Winery, 65 Main St., is Joy Ike and her fusion sound blending elements of jazz and rock.

At 2 p.m. Sunday at the Winery, area favorite Tom Zeller and Jazz Lite will perform mellow sounds under the new outdoor arbor.

This first Foxburg Jazz Fest closes with the jazz combo Catro playing at 6 p.m. Sunday under the Allegheny Grille tent, 40 Main St. Catro will perform a range from jazz standards to engaging and original improvisations.

All jazz fest events are admission by donation.
