Saxonburg borough garage damaged by tree

SAXONBURG — An oak tree on Sunday evening fell on the borough garage off Main Street.

Borough manager Mary Papik said the garage's roof, gutter and doors were damaged.

"There are a few holes in the roof," she said.

A damage estimate was unavailable, but Papik said the garage still can be used.

The metal roof and brick walls lessened the impact, and no damage was done to vehicles or equipment inside.

Papik said the top six feet of the tree broke off after it hit the garage. The rest of the oak, which previously was standing across the parking lot, fell to the ground.

Papik said various conditions including rot and carpenter ant infestation, likely contributed to the tree's demise.

Borough workers will do a temporary repair job to the roof along with clearing the debris.

The borough is insured by Selective through the C.W. Howard Insurance Agency.
