Margaret Jane Houlette McMillion

Margaret Jane Houlette McMillion died Wednesday at the Sherwood Oaks Retirement Community, Cranberry Township.

The wife of Theodore M. McMillion, she was a retired assistant professor of nursing at Butler County Community College.

Mrs. McMillion was born Oct. 28, 1919, in New Brighton, the daughter of Percy F. and Grace V. Houlette. She was known throughout her life as Jane.

After graduating from New Brighton High School in 1937, she attended the Jewish Hospital School of Nursing in Philadelphia. Upon becoming a registered nurse, she worked in Philadelphia.

In 1942, she enlisted in the U.S. Army Medical Corps and served in North Africa and Hawaii during World War II.

She attended Geneva College after the war and graduated in 1948. She taught for one year at the Jamison Hospital School of Nursing before marrying on June 7, 1949.

Mrs. McMillion resumed her career as a nursing instructor in 1960. During the following two decades, she taught at the Beaver Valley Hospital School of Nursing, the Rochester General Hospital School of Nursing and Butler County Community College. She also taught biology for one year, 1970 to 1971, at the Beaver Falls Senior High School.

Mrs. McMillion was an active member of clubs and community organizations. She was a member and past president of the American Association of University Women Beaver Valley branch, the College Hill Women's Club and the Outlook Club.

Following her retirement in 1981, she was a member of the boards of the Beaver County Chapter of the American Red Cross and the Beaver Valley United Way. The Upper Beaver Valley Jaycees named her their Woman of the Year in 1987. In 1983, she received a Distinguished Alumni Award from Geneva College for her active support, which included membership in the Alumni Association and Women's Auxiliary.

With her husband, Mrs. McMillion was a longtime resident of College Hill in Beaver Falls. She was a member of the College Hill Presbyterian Church, where she was a member of the session and the women's association.

Her husband preceded her in death.

Her survivors include two children, Margaret of Bangkok, Thailand, and her husband, Peter Yangpichit, and John, of Huron, Ohio, and his wife, Karen; her three grandchildren, Kathryn Ann, Jace and Jeffrey; a sister, Theda (Harry) Davis in Manassas, Va.; and a brother, Walter (Roberta) Houlette of in North Sewickley.

<B>MCMILLION</B> — Friends of Margaret Jane Houlette McMillion, who died Wednesday, June 8, 2011, will be received Wednesday, June 15, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. in the <B>LUTTON CHIPPEWA FUNERAL HOME</B>, 117 Blackhawk Road, Beaver Falls, www.luttonfuneralhome.com, where a funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 16, with the Rev. Dennis Burnett of the College Hill Presbyterian Church officiating.The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations be made in her honor to Geneva College, Beaver Falls, PA or to the College Hill Presbyterian Church in Beaver Falls, PA.
