James Andrews

On Friday evening, James “Jim” Andrews, 90, of Cranberry Township, formerly of Brighton Township, Beaver County, went peacefully home to heaven.

He was born June 3, 1921, to the late Samuel and Elizabeth Spencer Andrews in Weirton, W.Va.

He is survived by his loving wife, Betty L. Smith; a daughter, Judy (William “Bill”) Hart of Fombell and their children, Heather and Crystal Hart; his brother, Charles R. (Judy) of Monaca; and many nieces and nephews.

Beside his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Doris Host Andrews; and a sister, Mary Lou Andrews.

Jim was a first lieutenant in the 485th Bombers, 828th Squadron, during World War II, where he served in Venosa, Italy, as a fighter pilot. He flew B24s on bombing missions over Germany and received the Air Medal for his service.

Jim was an avid reader and loved fishing and hunting.

He was retired from St. Joe Steel in Monaca.

<B>ANDREWS</B> — Calling hours for James “Jim” Andrews, who died Friday, June 10, 2011, will be today from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. in the <B>J.T. ANDERSON FUNERAL HOME</B>, 724-774-5760, 205 College Avenue, Beaver. A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Quay Chapel of the funeral home with Pastor Henry Knapp of the First Presbyterian Church of Beaver officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow in Sylvania Hills Cemetery.Memorial donations may be made to VA Butler Healthcare, 325 New Castle Road, Butler, PA 16001 or to the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh, 4400 Forbes Ave., Pittsburgh, PA 15213.
