Edward C. Ellis, beloved husband and father, 90, of Clermont, Fla., formerly of Plantation, Fla., died Sunday morning at the Mike Conley Hospice in Clermont.

He grew up in Mars and graduated from Mars High School.

Born in Raccoon Township, Beaver County, Oct. 6, 1920, he was the son of the late Carlisle and Priscilla (Bolhorst) Ellis. The family briefly lived in Beaver County before moving to Adams Township.

Mr. Ellis was a retired insurance adjuster for Allstate Insurance and served on its disaster response team. He was a licensed funeral director in Florida, where he relocated in 1949. He also served as a regional supervisor for Shaklee.

A World War II veteran, Mr. Ellis served with the 3rd Infantry Division of the U.S. Army in Germany after the D-Day invasion. He was a rifle platoon sergeant; and during his service tour, he received the Combat Infantry Badge as well as several other awards and decorations for valor and meritorious service, including the Bronze Star.

He was a member of the Plantation United Methodist Church and was an active volunteer on behalf of the homeless and hungry in Fort Lauderdale.

He and his wife and children traveled extensively, visiting nearly all 50 states, as well as Europe, India, China and Africa.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Shirley (Dietrich) Ellis, a North Hills native who he married June 25, 1948; two children, Scott E. Ellis of Orlando, Fla., and Jody L. Ellis of Plantation, Fla.; and loved ones, Sue Maier and Don Meeker, also of Orlando and Plantation, respectively. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Elbert H. Ellis Sr., and a sister, Dorothy Ellis Trozzi, both of Mars.

Ellis, who died Sunday, June 5, 2011, will be received at the <B>McDonald-Aeberli Funeral Home</B>, 238 Crowe Ave. Mars, Saturday from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Services will follow at 8:30 p.m. with the Rev. Richard Leseganich, officiating.
