Robert Eugene Lightner, 52, of Slippery Rock died Friday at the Sunnyview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Born in Grove City, Jan. 1, 1959, he was the son of James Herman Lightner and Edith Mabel Rohr Lightner.

Bob was a kind, caring, thoughtful family member and friend to all. He was a devoted son and caregiver to his mother.

Bob was a gifted artist, and his work has been called “amazing” and “accomplished.”

He excelled in all racket sports including tennis, racquet ball and table tennis, where he had been nationally ranked at one time. He enjoyed cooking, especially for the family picnics.

Surviving are two sisters, Doris E. Lightner of Caldwell, N.J., and Cheryl L. McChesney of Tucson, Ariz.; and two brothers, Ronald J. Lightner of Slippery Rock and Michael R. (Maggie) Lightner of Northville, Mich. Also surviving are nieces, nephews and grandnieces.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

<B>LIGHTNER </B>— Services for Robert Eugene Lightner, who died Friday, June 3, 2011, will be at the <B>Smith Funeral Home</B>, 421 New Castle St., Slippery Rock, Thursday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. James Lewis, pastor of the West Liberty United Methodist Church, officiating. Visitation will be at the funeral home Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. and Thursday from 10 a.m. until time of service at 11 a.m. Bob's artwork will be on display at the visitation. Interment will be at Greenlawn Burial Estates, Mount Chestnut.Memorial contributions may be made to the Butler Regional Cancer Center, 102 Technology Drive. Suite 110, Butler, PA 16001 or to Irene Stacey Community Mental Health, 112 Hillvue Drive, Butler, PA 16001.
