Fire destroys storage shed

Buffalo Township firefighter Randy Reamer cools down the remains of a storage shed that erupted in flames Friday afternoon on Kamer Drive in the township.
Owner planned to tear it down

BUFFALO TWP — Fire destroyed a one-story detached storage shed at 103 Kamer Drive Friday afternoon.

But 62-year-old Vic Kamer, son of the shed's owner, said it was no loss. The family talked recently about tearing it down.

“Now there's no question it will be gone,” he said. “That's one eyesore out of here.”

First Lt. Tyler Hill of the Sarver Volunteer Fire Department said the cause of the fire was undetermined, but it was definitely an accident. He said the fire started in the shed's rafters and could have easily been caused by a nest or hay that combusted.

Kamer, who lives about a mile from his father, also named Victor Kamer, said only an hour before the fire started he had used a torch on scrap metal outside the shed.

“It only takes one spark,” he said.

Firefighters were dispatched just before 3 p.m.

Ben Lowry, a firefighter with the Buffalo Township Volunteer Fire Department, said the fire was brought under control in about 20 minutes. One firefighter was treated at the scene after debris got into his eye.

The contents of the shed, which were destroyed, were “just empty barrels,” the younger Kamer said.

In addition to Buffalo and Sarver, the Saxonburg Volunteer Fire Department and the Freeport Ambulance Service responded.
