HERSHEY — Rob McClellan didn’t have to worry about missing the cut during Monday’s PGA Professional National Championship.

His play on Monday never allowed that to happen.

McClellan of the Butler Country Club fired a four-under 68 at the Hershey Country Club’s West Course, giving him a two-round total of 138 and moving him into a 10-way tie for sixth place.

He will advance to the final two rounds, which will be played Tuesday and Wednesday.

McClellan had carded a 1-under par 70 on the East course on Sunday. The two-day cutoff score was 143

In all, 85 of the 312 golfers made the cut and the top 20 finishers will earn a berth to the 93rd PGA Championship, which will be held Aug. 11-14 at the Atlanta Athletic Club in Johns Creek, Ga.

McClellan was bogey- free Monday and made birdies on Nos. 2, 8, 10 and 15.

Sean Dougherty of Overland Park, Kan. made eight birdies for an 8-under 64 to take the lead after two rounds.

His total of 131 set a 36-hole scoring record of 12-under par, breaking Sam Snead’s 1971 record by one stroke. He is two strokes ahead of Jeff Sorenson of Blaine, Minn. and Scott Erdmann of Tigard, Ore.
