PITTSBURGH — Pittsburgh Opera will present 11-year-old singing sensation Jackie Evancho in concert at 5:30 p.m. Oct. 16 at the Benedum Center, 719 Liberty Ave.
The event is part of a weekend that will begin with the opera company's season-opening performance of Verdi's “La Traviata” on Oct. 15.
Jackie, a Wexford resident, rose to fame as an America's Got Talent finalist.

PITTSBURGH — On select Sunday mornings this summer, the Carnegie Science Center will offer visitors the chance to go behind the scenes of USS Requin, a Cold War-era submarine docked on the Ohio River, and tour areas rarely seen by the general public.Requin behind-the-scenes “Tech Tours” will take place from 9 to 11 a.m. this Sunday and July 10 and 24 and Aug. 7 and 21.Due to the submarine's structure, Requin Tech Tours require full mobility, and tour size is limited to 12 people. Participants must be 15 or older. Cost is $20 for nonmembers and $15 for members. PITTSBURGH — The ToonSeum will host a Downtown Heroes Block Party from noon to 8 p.m. June 25.The day will include superhero-themed activities, including a Superman sound effects workshop, make-your-own superhero costumes, outdoor jazz, free comic books, and a special matinee performance of Midnight Radio: Superhero Edition.Activities will take place in the 900 block of Liberty Avenue.
