Siebka gets D-10 hurdles crown
Slippery Rock’s Morgan Siebka captured the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 16.01 seconds at the District 10 Class AA Track and Field Championships Saturday at Hickory High School.
Siebka, a sophomore, also placed second in the 300 hurdles (48.20), to qualify in both events for the PIAA Championships this weekend at Shippensburg University.
“As a sophomore, she’s learning what it takes to be a competitor,” said Slippery Rock coach Tony Consbruck.
She will be joined by junior teammates Bre Northcott (discus, 118-11, fifth place) and Jessica Bennett (3,200, 12:04.71, second place).
Bennett needed a late push to grab the second qualifying spot.
The top two placewinners are guaranteed a state berth while others up to eighth place must meet the state qualifying standard.
Northcott did just that in the discus. She placed fourth in the javelin (113-4) and eighth in the shot put (35-3), but did not advance in those events.
Other Slippery Rock athletes who earned all-district honors from the meet include: Aster Chmielewski (100 hurdles, fourth, 16.74), Kayla McKnight (pole vault, fifth, 9-0), and Ali Lotz (triple jump, sixth, 32-9Z\x) as well as all three relay races.
The 3,200 relay team of Bennett, Olivia Green, Sarah Kadlubek and Anna Cessar posted a 24-second improvement (10:00.73) for third place, as did the 1,600 relay team of Siebka, Chmielewski, Alexis Reeher and Heather Urbaniak (4:12.80).
The 400 relay team of Urbaniak, Chmielewski, Reeher and Hope Vitous was sixth (52.35).
“The who team had an outstanding day,” said Consbruck, whose team had 15 of 18 girls score points, “and they’re so young. I told them afterward on the bus we are going to build and go after Hickory.
“This group is starting to believe,” Consbruck added.
