'Jackets rally for win
The Freeport softball team overcame a 6-0 first-inning deficit to topple Mount Pleasant 8-7 at Woodland Hills in the first round of the WPIAL Class AA playoffs Friday afternoon.
Anna Christy drove in the winning run with an infield hit for the Yellowjackets (13-5).
Freeport will play Deer Lakes, a team they split with during the regular season, Tuesday at a site and time to be determined.

Karns City freshman Emily Schumacher ran a time of 1 minute, .59 seconds to place second in the 400-meter dash at the District 9 Class AA Track and Field Championships in Kane Friday night.By finishing in the top two, Schumacher advanced to the PIAA Track and Field Championships, which begin next weekend in Shippensburg.Joining Schumacher at the state meet for Karns City will be Tyler Marsinetti, who placed second in the boys 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.90 seconds. Marsinetti also advanced as part of the Gremlins' 400-meter relay team, which finished second with a time of 45.46.The other members of that team are Dustin Scheerbaum, Glenn Toy and Brian Best.
Alex Miklos, Jason Revesz and Jordan Orlowski all homered as Grove City routed Franklin 15-1 to wrap up its third consecutive region title.The Eagles finished 10-0 in the region and 15-2 overall.Jon Anderson got the win for Grove City, striking out six and walking one in five innings.
