Cigna passes away

PITTSBURGH — A longtime Pittsburgh radio personality has died.

News station KDKA says former talk show host John Cigna died Friday afternoon.

Cigna’s voice was heard on the airwaves for more than three decades in the Pittsburgh area. He had a popular morning drive-time show for 18 years before retiring in 2001.

KDKA reports that Cigna grew up in Brooklyn, N.Y., and came to Pittsburgh after radio gigs in West Virginia, Ohio and Indiana.

When Cigna retired, he told sister station KDKA-TV that “I talked and told it like it is. A lot of times, put both feet in my mouth, but it was great.”

The radio station did not report Cigna’s age or cause of death, but said he had been in failing health.
