Five Butler fighters will compete on an amateur boxing card Saturday night at the Cubs Hall.

Two of the Cubs boxers — Billy Wolfe, 11, at 65 pounds and Donovan Malovich, 12, at 80 pounds — are in Junior Olympic Tournament matches. Should they win, they will advance to the second round of JO competition next weekend in Maryland.

Wolfe is 5-0 in his amateur career while Malovicvh is 15-2.

“They’re pretty athletic kids,” longtime Cubs boxing trainer Don Spinetti said. “Donovan has been called ‘The Bean,’ after a Mexican jumping bean, the way he jumps around in the ring.

“He has great footwork. He punches off his moves really well.”

Lucas Adams, Luke Homa and Bobby Osterrider are other Cubs fighters on the card.

Adams, 15, is 1-0, having won his debut match two weeks ago in Erie. Homa, 17, a Moniteau student, is 0-2 and has not fought in nearly three years.

“He was in an automobile accident back then and messed up his arm,” Spinetti said. “This is his first fight since.”

Osterrider, a Pine-Richland graduate now living in Butler, is 6-0 with four of his wins by knockout. He will be taking on Justin Steve, 5-2, of Ambridge in the main event. Steve has also done sone MMA fighting.

Spinetti’s head trainer with the Cubs boxing program is Gary Warman, who won a Pittsburgh Golden Gloves title as a Cubs boxer himself more than 30 years ago.

Spinetti, already a member of the Butler County Sports Hall of Fame, was inducted into the Pennsylvania Golden Gloves Hall of Fame two weeks ago.

Tickets for Saturday’s show are $12 and will be available at the door. The first bout is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
