“Canada Goose,” a digital photograph by Richard Rylott, is one of the entries in the Associated Artists of Butler County annual spring show and sale opening Friday at The Art Center.

The Associated Artists of Butler County opens its 76th annual spring show and sale with a reception beginning at 7 p.m. Friday at The Art Center, 344 S. Main St.

Admission is free and light refreshments will be served.

AABC President Paul Scanlon said this spring show is a bit atypical because it features some digital photography and sculpture in addition to more conventional entries such as watercolors and pastels.

Other forms of art media represented include pencil and ink drawing, charcoal, mixed media, acrylic painting and printmaking.

In addition to the main exhibit, Butler artist T.J. Sheehan will be hosting a solo exhibit called “Collective Expressions” in the Members Gallery.

Sheehan's show consists of 13 groupings comprised of more than 50 pieces of artwork in a variety of approaches from realism to total abstraction.

His pencil etchings, some no larger than a postcard, demonstrate his ability with this medium and have been favorably compared with those of the Dutch masters.

These exhibits will remain on display through June 10 during gallery hours of noon to 6 p.m. Wednesdays through Fridays and noon to 4 p.m. Saturdays.
