SRU tennis defeated in regional
VALENCIA — Indiana (Pa.) University sophomore Emilia Osborne won the deciding match in three sets Monday night as the Crimson Hawks edged Slippery Rock, 5-4, in the NCAA Division II Atlantic Region women’s tennis finals.
The match, held indoors at the Lakevue Athletic Club, ended SRU’s season at 15-7. The Rock reached the region finals for the fifth consecutive season.
Osborne defeated SRU sophomore Elisabeth Yetiskul 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 in the night’s final match. IUP advances to the national round of 16 with a 21-6 record.
Junior Sarah Lynch teamed with Janelle Krantz to win at No. 1 doubles for The Rock. Lynch and freshmen Lauren Coggins and Samantha Bruggeman won singles matches.
The Rock reached the regional final by defeating West Virginia State 5-0 Sunday night on the indoor courts.
Lynch and Bruggeman won their matches in singles and doubles to lead the victory.
SRU is the defending regional champion and reached the national round of eight last year.
