Strong arm, solid bat

Amanda Skidmore tallied three hits, including a home run, helping her own cause in Butler's 6-3 high school softball win over North Hills on Thursday.

Skidmore pitched a complete game, striking out four in the section victory.

Butler (4-4, 2-4) will play games at Pine-Richland and North Allegheny on Saturday.

In other games:

• Codi Reed tossed a complete-game shutout and added a single and double to lead Knoch to a 3-0 victory over Kittanning.

• Anna Christy went 4-for-4 with two runs scored and three RBI in Freeport's 7-0 win over West Shamokin.

Micaela Kurn earned the win, fanning nine in a complete game shutout.

• Jordan McCauley led Slippery Rock's 21-hit attack, smacking two singles and a pair of doubles in a 14-11 win at Franklin.

• Heather McMillen drove in five runs in Moniteau's 14-0, five-inning win over A-C Valley.

• Despite two home runs and a double from Brooke Hiles, Karns City was outslugged by host Cranberry 20-12 in KSAC action.

Knoch's Jack Boros and Nick Pfeiffer placed third at the Section 3-AA doubles tournament at Sewickley Academy, earning a spot at next Thursday's WPIAL Championships.After falling to Sewickley's Kleeman and Monschek 6-3, 6-0 in the semifinals, Boros and Pfeiffer rebounded with a dominating 6-2, 6-0 victory over Quaker Valley's John Means and Garret Powell in the third-place consolation match.Earlier in the day, Boros and Pfeiffer, a junior and senior respectively, defeated Mars' Mac Clyde and Chad Hoey 10-4 in first-round action.Knoch's duo then beat Winchester Thurston's Gabe Isaacson and Tim Hebon 10-5 in the second round to advance to the semifinals against Sewickley Academy.
