Rock hurler Jeney gets national honor
Slippery Rock University left-hander Zach Jeney was named as the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association’s Division II Pitcher of the Week Wednesday.
Jeney earned the honor by pitching eight hitless and scoreless innings in two games last week.
Jeney tossed a hitless inning of relief April 18 to close out a 15-11 win over Shippensburg and then returned April 23 to hurl a no-hitter against Lock Haven.
Women’s GolfGrove City College junior Arielle Goyzueta fired a two-round score of 168 to claim the Presidents’ Athletic Conference Women’s Golf Championship MVP and led the Wolverines to the team title.Grove City won the event by 41 strokes over Washington & Jefferson.Jessica Johansen and Lindsay Crawford tied for fifth for the Wolverines with scores of 179.Mars graduate and Grove City senior Megan Gibson placed eighth with a 187.Grove City coach Melissa Lamie, who also leads the women’s soccer program and is the former women’s basketball coach at the school, was named the PAC Coach of the Year.
Men’s GolfMars graduate Ian Finney fired a two-round score of 158, placing 11th to help the Grove City College men’s golf team to a fourth-place finish at the PAC Men’s Golf Championship Wednesday in West Middlesex.
