Lillian Grace Martin
Lillian Grace Martin, 86, of Shenango Presbyterian Senior Care in New Wilmington, formerly of Kathryn Street in New Wilmington, died Thursday morning at Shenango Presbyterian Senior Care.
Born Sept. 21, 1924, in Scott Township, Lawrence County, she was the daughter of Clifford R. Martin and Hazel Double Martin.
She had been a teacher in the New Castle Public Schools from 1946 to 1954 and then at Indiana (Pa.) University and retired as a professor emeritus in education in 1984.
Miss Martin graduated from Harlansburg High School in 1942, Slippery Rock State Teachers College in 1946, earned her master's from Penn State and was a certified elementary librarian and elementary principal
She was a member of the Tuesday Afternoon Garden Club and the Thursday Club. She enjoyed sewing and traveling. She was a volunteer for Jameson Hospital, Shenango Senior Care and other community organizations.
She was a member and served on the session of the New Wilmington Presbyterian Church. She supported the Presbyterian Women and served on many committees for the church.
Surviving are a sister, Genevieve Brenneman Hogg of New Castle; two brothers, E. Clair Martin of Slippery Rock and Marion Martin of Grove City; seven nieces and nephews, Jerry Martin (Marsha), Dennis Martin, Tim Brenneman (Deb), Jim Martin (Jenny), Linda Martin Wilson (Tom), Cheryl Brenneman Patterson (Keith) and Dan Martin; and 10 great-nieces and great-nephews, Brad Wilson (Katie), Allyson Wilson Garrett (Luke), Zach and Tyler Brenneman, Jon and Hannah Patterson, Jessica, Mathew and Brian Martin and Shane Wilson.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Samuel A. Martin, and two nieces, Judith Martin and Crystal Stoner.
<B>MARTIN</B> — Services for Lillian Grace Martin, who died Thursday, March 17, 2011, will be at the New Wilmington Presbyterian Church at 11 a.m. Monday with the Rev. Lisa Hickman and the her nephew, the Rev. Jim Martin, officiating. Visitation will be at the <B>Smith Funeral Home</B>, 310. W Neshannock Ave., New Wilmington, Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Interment will be at the South Plain Grove Cemetery, Plain Grove Township, Lawrence County.Memorials may be made to Shenango Presbyterian Senior Care, 238 S.
