Airline executives say they still support Boeing

Airline executives still support Boeing

DALLAS — The CEOs of Southwest Airlines and American Airlines are giving a vote of confidence to Boeing.

The airline executives say the hole that popped open on a Boeing plane operated by Southwest last week won’t cause them to buy planes from another manufacturer in the future.

Southwest CEO Gary Kelly said Friday that Boeing pitched in immediately to help plan inspections and repairs of its older planes.

For its part, American has been waiting for years for the new Boeing 787 jet, which is now three years behind schedule.

American CEO Gerard Arpey says he’s not happy with delays with the 787, but notes that it’s not uncommon when developing a new plane.
