Smith shoots 3-over
St. Jude Golf Club member Nathan Smith shot a three-over-par 75 in Thursday’s opening round of the 2011 Masters at Augusta National Golf Club in Georgia.
He entered today’s 8:07 a.m. tee time tied for 75th place with 11 other golfers, including notables Stuart Appleby, Hunter Mahan and Ernie Els.
Rory McIlroy and Alvaro Quiros are tied for the lead at minus-7.
Smith’s performance Thursday included three birdies and six bogies.
He was the only golfer in his threesome — which includes Kevin Streelman and PGA veteran Craig Stadler — to birdie the 575-yard, par-five No. 2 hole.
Streelman is also tied with Smith in the standings, while Stadler is tied for 97th in the field, which includes 99 golfers.
Smith could not be reached for comment.
