SRU's Lapkowicz tosses no-hitter
Joby Lapkowicz tossed a complete-game no-hitter with nine strikeouts as the Slippery Rock University baseball team salvaged a split with at 7-0 triumph over Clarion University Sunday.
The Rock had lost the opener 4-2.
Lapkowicz’s no-hitter was the first thrown by an SRU pitcher since Mike Sikorski turned the trick in the 2003 NCAA Division II North Atlantic Regional tournament against Kutztown University.
Lapkowicz has now tossed 17 consecutive scoreless innings. Derek Carr and Matt Howard had RBI singles to highlight a three-run third inning.
In the first game, SRU 16-10, 5-3) had eight hits, but plated just the two runs.

SoftballSRU saw its 13-game winning streak snapped Sunday in a 6-3, 5-1 doubleheader loss to host California (Pa.) Sunday.Four SRU errors led to four unearned runs in the first game. Breanna Tongel had a double and home run and two RBI while Gina Brenzo added one hit, two stolen bases and a run scored.In the nightcap, The Rock (16-4, 4-2) managed just five singles and Katie Saluga saw her 15-game hitting streak come to an end.
