John Kemp, 83, of Eau Claire died Monday at Butler Memorial Hospital.

Born April 15, 1927, in Belfry, Ky., he was the son of the late Martha Jane Thompson and Millard Browning and the stepson of Edward Kemp.

He was a World War II Army veteran, serving with Gen. Courtney H. Hodges 1st Army, 8th Division, 28 Regiment in the Hurtgen Forest and the Battle of the Bulge.

John was a member of the VFW and American Legion and a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans.

He attended Fellowship Baptist Church in Emlenton.

John was a truck driver for 58 years, earning numerous safe driving awards for PPG, including a one million mile safety award.

He enjoyed working in his garage and on his back hoe with his best buddy, Don. He also enjoyed reading as a pastime.

He is survived by his wife, Virginia; three stepdaughters, Darlene Dupuis of Abbeville, La., Marianne Krainz of Cranberry Township and Gerry Johnson of Lafayette, La.; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; 14 great-great grandchildren; and numerous nephews, nieces and cousins.

In addition to his parents and stepfather, John was preceded in death by two grandsons, a great-granddaughter, and a son-in-law.

<B>KEMP </B>— Friends of John Kemp, who died Monday, Jan. 31, 2011, will be received at <B>H. Jack Buzard Funeral Home</B>, Main Street, Eau Claire, Thursday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be at the funeral home at 11 a.m. Friday.
