PITTSBURGH — Police say a Pittsburgh bank robber who tried to use a taxi and a bus to make his getaway was foiled by an exploding dye packet.

Investigators said 45-year-old Sean Allen Jackson robbed a PNC Bank on Monday afternoon and then got into the back seat of a taxi. The dye packet that accompanied the loot blew up, covering him in red dye.

Authorities said the cab driver immediately pulled over and Jackson got out and boarded a bus to continue his getaway but officers followed and took him into custody using a stun gun.

SINKING SPRING — Dozens of birds found dead along highway over the weekend apparently were killed with a poison that's legal for farmers to use, state game officials said.The Pennsylvania Game Commission said Monday that tests showed the birds were killed by Starlicide. It is federally licensed poison designed to kill European starlings and gulls, and is less toxic to most other birds.
