Philip B. Stemmerich, 79, a 47-year resident of 1121 Slippery Rock Road, Grove City, Liberty Township, Mercer County, died at 9:30 p.m. Thursday at the Grove City Medical Center after a two-year illness.

Born in Pittsburgh, June 23, 1931, he was the son of William L. Stemmerich and Bertha Kelly Stemmerich.

He married Joy Ellen Morrison on Jan. 25, 1958, and she died Jan. 20, 1997.

Mr. Stemmerich retired from Mercer Forge in 1996, where he was a tool and die maker for 25 years.

He was a member of the Church of the Beloved Disciple, Grove City.

He graduated from Grove City High School, Class of 1951, and he was a member of the Grove City Knights of Columbus.

He enjoyed his family, playing golf and bowling. He formerly played in leagues at the Shamrock and Pine Grove Golf courses.

Surviving are a daughter, Erin S. Huber and her husband, John W. “Jay” Huber, of Wexford; a son, Philip Mark Stemmerich and his wife, Cheryl, of Warren, Mich.; and four grandchildren, Derek, Evan, Camden and Toni.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by two brothers, William J. Stemmerich and Thomas Stemmerich.

<B>STEMMERICH</B> — A Mass of Christian burial for Philip B. Stemmerich, who died Thursday, Jan. 27, 2011, will be at the Church of the Beloved Disciple, 1310 S. Center Street Ext., Grove City, at 11 a.m. Monday with the Rev. Father Mark Hoffman as celebrant. Visitation will be at <B>Cunningham Funeral Home</B>, 306 Bessemer Ave., Grove City, from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday. Burial will be in Crestview Memorial Park.
