Kenneth Grossman
Kenneth J. Grossman, 89, of Saxonburg died early Tuesday at the Alle-Kiski Medical Center in Natrona Heights.
He was born in Cabot, Feb. 10, 1921, a son of the late Harry J. and Anna Caroline Hammel Grossman.
Ken retired, following 42 years, from Allegheny Technologies in Natrona Heights, where he worked in the shipping and receiving department. Before that, he worked in purchasing at Allegheny Ludlum's Pittsburgh plant.
Ken had earned certificates in firearm proficiency and safety and had been a captain in the Auxiliary Police Department of the city of New Kensington. After moving to Saxonburg, he continued as a member of the school police at Knoch High School.
He enjoyed cars and golf and was a fan of all high school to professional sports. He also was an excellent dancer, and together with his wife they had won several jitterbug contests.
A veteran of the U.S. Army, he had served as a sergeant during World War II with the 26th Medical Detachment and was a part of the New Guinea and Luzon beachheads in the Pacific theater. For his service he was awarded three Bronze Stars. Ken was a member of the VFW Post 894 in Natrona Heights.He was the loving husband of 62 years to Rose Marie Conrad Grossman. They were married July 17, 1948. Also surviving are three children, Jon Kenneth Grossman of Saxonburg, Lynda Sue Fularz and her husband, Joseph, of Lower Burrell and Karen Joyce Leibowitz (Gregory Morvick) of Tarentum; five grandchildren, Bryan J. Fularz, Chad K. (Laura) Fularz, Seth and Zane Leibowitz and Kara Lyn (Dennis) McCain; and three great-grandchildren, Evan and Trevor Fularz; and Maui Rose McCain.He was preceded in death by a great-granddaughter, Keeley B. Fularz; and his brother, G. William Grossman.
<B>GROSSMAN </B>— Friends of Kenneth J. Grossman, who died Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2011, will be received from 3 to 7 p.m. Friday at the <B>Geibel Funeral Home</B>, 201 E. Cunningham St., Butler. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. The Rev. Steven V. Neff, pastor of the St. Paul Roman Catholic Church in Butler, will officiate. Interment will be at the St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Cemetery in Herman with military honors provided by the Ceremonial Honors Squad of VFW Post 249 in Butler and American Legion Post 778 of Lyndora.Information also is available at www.geibelfuneralhome.com.
