Claribel H. Martin
Claribel H. Martin, 87, of Butler died Friday evening at the Passavant Nursing Home in Zelienople.
She was born in Clintonville, Venango County, July 23, 1923. She was the daughter of the late C. Harold and Marjorie Jane Hovis Oakes.
Claribel graduated from Grove City College in 1945. After graduating from college, she was a high school English teacher in the Eau Claire and Lyndora schools.
She was a member and deacon of the Mount Chestnut United Presbyterian Church.
She was an avid reader and enjoyed solving crossword puzzles and traveling.
Surviving are her husband of 61 years, Charles F. Martin, who she married June 25, 1949; a son, William “Bill” R. Martin of Slippery Rock; two daughters, Rebecca “Becky” Maust and her husband, Allan B. Maust, of Columbus, Ohio, and Marianne “Mimi” Snyder and her husband, Douglas L. Snyder, of Slippery Rock; five grandchildren, Justin (Janie) Martin, Evan (Shannon) Martin, Logan Martin and Courtney and Whitney Snyder; two sisters, Grace O. Vogus of Butler and Elizabeth “Betty” Cross of Kennerdell; two sisters-in-law, Doris Martin of Mentor, Ohio, and Margaret Ellen (Bill) Cook of Eau Claire; two brothers-in-law, Ken (Juanita) Martin of North Washington and Robert (Ferne) Martin of Dayton, Ohio; four nieces; and 10 nephews.
