UNIONTOWN — A southwestern Pennsylvania fire chief and his wife have been ordered to stand trial on charges of stealing about $20,000 in unemployment compensation after he returned from a nearly four-month furlough last year.

The (Uniontown) Herald-Standard says Fayette County Magisterial District Judge Michael Metros held theft and insurance fraud charges against former Uniontown fire chief Myron Nypaver and 41-year-old Lisa Nypaver for court after a lengthy preliminary hearing Tuesday.

ST. MARYS — Another north-central Pennsylvania community is opposing a state Public Utility Commission plan to split the 814 area code into two area codes.The St. Marys City Council has approved a resolution against the proposal that would change that region's area code to 582, with 814 left to a swath of west-central Pennsylvania.The St. Marys Daily Press reported that Mayor Sally Geyer said a new area code would require numerous changes.

SEWICKLEY — Police in Western Pennsylvania are looking for a man they say used a bizarre disguise when he robbed a gas station.Trooper Stephen Limani of the state police barracks in Greensburg said a man robbed the Buy 'n Fly in Herminie after wrapping himself in fabric to conceal his identity.Limani tells WTAE-TV that witnesses said the man was wielding a hatchet and “almost had the appearance of a mummy.”
