Leona A. Geibel Farnen, of Butler died Tuesday evening at New Haven Court in Butler.

She was a daughter of the late Dess and Anna Mary Waltman Geibel.

For more than 40 years, Leona had been employed by the former A&P supermarkets in Butler. She had been the head cashier at their locations on North Main Street and later on the Island at West Wayne Street.

She was a lifelong member of St. Peter Roman Catholic Church in Butler. She formerly was a member of the Armco Golf Club as she loved to golf, play bridge and bowl.

Leona also always enjoyed spending time with her family at Camp Bonniebrook near Kane in Elk County.

She was the widow of Joseph Eugene Farnen. They were married from Oct. 24, 1935, until his passing on Sept. 23, 2001. She also was preceded in death by two brothers, Russell and Glenn “Pee-Wee” Geibel.

Surviving are two sisters, Marcella Schnur and Lauretta Christie and her husband, Ralph W. Christie, of Butler; a brother, Victor Geibel and his wife, Annabelle, of Butler; and numerous nieces and nephews.

<B>FARNEN </B>— Family and friends of Leona A. Geibel Farnen, who died Tuesday, Jan. 11, 2011, may call at the <B>Geibel Funeral Home</B>, 201 E. Cunningham St., Butler, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday at the St. Peter Catholic Church, 127 Franklin St., Butler. Entombment will follow at the Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum, Butler.The Women's Council of St. Peter will recite the rosary at 9:40 a.m. Saturday at the church.Information also is available at www.geibelfuneralhome.com.
