Air Force Reserve Lt. Col.
Richard Sater, a native of Butler, recently retired from the military after 24 years of reserve service.Prior to his retirement, he was the public affairs officer for the Defense Logistics Agency’s Joint Reserve Force, Fort Belvoir, Va.At his Feb. 6 retirement ceremony, he was awarded the Defense Meritorious Service Medal for his service to the Joint Reserve Force and DLA.Sater was commissioned as a public affairs officer in the Air Force Reserve in 1989. He has deployed three times in support of the Global War on Terrorism, serving in Iraq, Afghanistan and the Philippines and has supported military operations at home and abroad, serving almost three years of active duty.During his career, he was selected as the Air Force Public Affairs Officer of the Year for the Reserve component three times, most recently in 2004.He is the son of Richard and Dolores Sater of Butler.He earned his bachelor’s in English from the University of Pittsburgh in 1983 and received a master’s in English from Purdue University, West Lafayette, Ind., in 1989. He earned his doctorate of philosophy in fine arts from Ohio University, Athens, Ohio, in 2001.In his civilian career, Sater is a freelance writer and also is employed by Design Display Associates, Seattle, Wash., where he makes his home.———Navy Seaman Apprentice
Jason Rogacki, son of Marcie and Aaron Rogacki of Sarver, recently completed basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill.Rogacki is a 2001 graduate of Freeport High School.
