MURRYSVILLE — Two dozen people, including one student, were taken to a hospital as a precaution after an overheated battery released fumes that forced the evacuation of a middle school.

Franklin Regional School District spokeswoman Shelley Shaneyfelt said the 23 teachers and one student were taken for evaluation after a floor scrubber overheated at 7:15 a.m. Wednesday.

HARRISBURG — A Commonwealth Court judge has dismissed a sportsmen's group's challenge to the Pennsylvania Game Commission's deer-management program.Senior Judge Barry Feudale's summary judgment against The Unified Sportsmen of Pennsylvania was made public Wednesday.In his opinion, Feudale said the group offered no evidence that the commission's management of the state's deer herd is based on fraud or any abuse of its discretion. He said its arguments reflect “merely a disagreement” with the commission's philosophy.The group claimed commission policies are based on inadequate data and allow overhunting of does.

HARRISBURG — Tom Corbett has signed his first execution warrants as governor.Corbett’s office said Wednesday that he signed warrants for convicted murderers Dennis C. Reed of Lawrence County and Aquil Bond of Philadelphia.
