HARRISBURG — Gov. Tom Corbett said Tuesday he will nominate a longtime Pennsylvania Farm Bureau official to be the commonwealth’s next secretary of agriculture.

George Greig of Linesville, Crawford County, has served on the farm bureau’s state board for six years and also has been involved in agricultural leadership at the national, county and local levels.

Greig, 59, and his brother also own and operate a 650-acre dairy farm in Crawford County.

He “is an experienced farmer, businessman and leader,” Corbett said. “His record of success and service makes him an ideal choice to lead this important state agency.”

With Greig’s nomination, Corbett has named his choices to fill all but four of the seats in his Cabinet. Still unfilled are adjutant general and the secretaries of the departments of Aging, Conservation and Natural Resources, and Labor and Industry.

Senate committees are expected to hold public hearings on many of the nominations this month, but the timing may depend on how soon the nominees file required statements of financial interest with the State Ethics Commission, said Erik Arneson, a spokesman for Senate Majority Leader Dominic Pileggi, R-Delaware.

By law, the full Senate cannot vote on gubernatorial nominations until at least 10 calendar days after the nominees file those statements
