Butler High students advance in FBLA event

BUTLER TWP — Five Butler High School seniors and one junior will compete at state finals in April after winning at the Future Business Leaders of America regional event in December.

The students competed against 505 students from 13 other schools.

Among the seniors, Kathryn Claudy won first place in Accounting II; Robert Fields won first place in spreadsheet applications; and Ryan Huth won fourth place in computer problem solving.

Among seniors in state-only competitions, Ben Thomas qualified for digital design and promotion and Mike Lucco qualified for computer game simulation and programming.

Skyler Bittner, a junior, also will compete in computer game simulation and programming at the state level.

This is the third year Butler students have placed high enough to attend state finals.

In previous years, four students qualified for national competitions. Two attended, but a funding shortage prevented students from going last year.
