SRU men stop California (Pa.)

Devin Taylor connected on 10 of 13 shots from the floor to finish with 26 points to lead the Slippery Rock University men's basketball team to an 86-68 victory over PSAC-West rival California (Pa.) Wednesday at Morrow Field House.

Maron Brown added 18 points and eight rebounds, Jon Valeriano 15 points and five assists and Jabril Bailey 14 points and eight assists, all for The Rock (13-6, 3-2).

SRU shot 55.8 percent from the field and sank eight of 17 3-point attempts en route to the win.

California (Pa.) outscored Slippery Rock 39-19 in the second half to come away with a 68-45 PSAC-West victory Wednesday.Danielle Smith led The Rock (2-15, 0-5) with 17 points while teammates Marlynda Harland added 13 points and Sherita Stanley 10 points and a team-high eight rebounds.• In other action, Butler County Community College’s women’s basketball team finished the game with four players, but defeated Lorain Community College, 77-74, Tuesday.The Pioneers (10-7) brought seven players on the road trip and three fouled out. Katresa Savisky scored 33 points and Ashley Campbell added 18.Earlier in the week, the Pioneers defeated CCAC North, 51-34, behind 19 points from Campbell, 16 from Savisky and 10 assists from Emily Wise.On the men’s side, BC3 slipped to 3-15 with a 117-76 loss at Lorain. Antawane Davis had 19 points, Ben Peterson 13 points and 10 rebounds, Mars graduate Ian Hindley 12 points.The Pioneers narrowly missed a fourth win Monday as a three-point play by Peterson gave the team a 93-92 lead on Penn Highlands with 11 seconds remaining.Tim Smith drained a 3-pointer at the buzzer to give Highlands a 95-93 triumph. Jordan Taylor scored 29 points and Blake Anderson added 18 for the Pioneers.
