Robert Joseph “Bob” Thompson, 79, of Grove City, formerly of New Hope, passed away at 10:33 a.m. Wednesday at the Grove City Medical Center.

He was born Nov. 22, l931, in Branchton. He was the son of the late Paul Richard Thompson and the late Emma M. (Huselton) Thompson.

He attended the Holy Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church.

He was retired from Bessemer and Lake Erie Railroad.

Bob enjoyed fishing, hunting, trapping, square dancing, playing softball and playing several musical instruments. He also was a member of the Grove City Masonic Lodge.

He is survived by his wife, Marguerite “Jean” (Hochstein) Thompson, who he married March 31, 1951; one daughter, Mrs. A. Ashby (Janice) Carter of Belle Plaine, Minn.; one son, William P. and his wife, Mary, Thompson of Boyers; three grandchildren, Rachael (Devin) Pearce, Eric Carter and Paul Thompson; two sisters, Mary E. Colosimo of Mercer and Doris Eakin of Mt. Vernon, Ohio; two brothers, Paul E. (Donna) Thompson of Wheatridge, Colo., and David Thompson of Harrisville.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Hazel Norris McDougall, and one brother, Lawrence W. Thompson.

<B>THOMPSONM</b> — Friends of Robert Joseph “Bob” Thompson, who died Wednesday, Dec. 15, 2010, will be received at the <B>William F. Young Funeral Home</B>, 132 Main St., West Sunbury, on Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Services will be at the funeral home at 1 p.m. Monday with the Rev. James M. Seeley of the Holy Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church officiating. Burial will be in West Sunbury Union Cemetery.In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made to the American Heart Association of Western Pennsylvania, 10 Duff Road, Suite 304, Pittsburgh, PA 15235.
