Dorothy J. Atkinson, 93, of Inwood, W.Va., formerly of the East Brady High Rise and Kaylor, died Monday at her home in Inwood, W.Va., under hospice care.

Born Nov. 25, 1917, in Kaylor, she was the daughter of the late Thomas H. McClure and the late Ida M. Kamerer McClure.

She was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ, now St. Paul's Community Church, in Chicora. She also was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the East Brady Volunteer Fire Department, She taught Sunday school in St. Paul's Church for 13 years and was a volunteer at the East Brady High Rise.

She is survived by three sons, Thomas H. Atkinson of Sacramento, Calif., Harold R. Atkinson of Canton, N.C., and James D. Atkinson of Tehachapi, Calif.; one daughter, Judith A. Mawhinney of Inwood, W.Va.; her friend, Arthur Thompson of the East Brady High Rise; two sisters, Flora Mellish and her husband, Paul, of East Brady, and Mona Hegburg of Chicora; 14 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband,

George L. Atkinson, who she married June 11, 1935, and who died Dec. 15, 1990; one infant son; three brothers, Robert McClure, Thomas McClure and Raymond McClure; and a sister, Ruth Atkinson.

<B>ATKINSON — </B>Friends of Dorothy J. Atkinson, who died Monday, Dec. 13, 2010, will be received Monday from 10 a.m. to noon at St. Paul’s Community Church, Route 268, Chicora. Funeral services will take place at noon Monday at the church with pastors Randall Forester and Mark Hillwig officiating.
