Vancouver vanquishes Capitals
WASHINGTON — Roberto Luongo made 25 saves to stretch his regulation unbeaten streak to a career-high 12 games, and Christian Ehrhoff broke a second-period tie with a power-play goal in the Vancouver Canucks’ 4-2 victory over the Washington Capitals Friday night.
Daniel Sedin scored his 26th and 27th goals of the season and Ehrhoff and Alexander Edler each had a goal and an assist.
Matt Hendricks and Marcus Johansson scored for Washington. The Capitals have lost three straight.
Avalanche 4, Wild 1
At St. Paul, Minn., Craig Anderson made 32 saves to help Colorado beat Minnesota, a victory tempered by the loss of center Ryan O’Reilly after he crashed headfirst into the boards.
Colorado led 2-0 early in the second period when O’Reilly was taken off the ice on a stretcher after losing his balance and slamming into the boards. A team official said O’Reilly had movement in his arms and legs and was taken to Regions Hospital. The injury delayed the game for about 10 minutes.
Flyers 5, Thrashers 2
At Atlanta, Danny Briere and Claude Giroux scored third-period goals, and Sergei Bobrovsky made 27 saves for Philadelphia.
Philadelphia has won five of six to open a four-point lead over second-place Tampa Bay in the Eastern Conference. The Thrashers have just one regulation win in their last 11 games.
Andrew Ladd and Rich Peverley scored for Atlanta.
Blue Jackets 3, Red Wings 2
At Columbus, Ohio, Antoine Vermette had the only goal in a shootout and Steve Mason stopped all four shots he faced in the tiebreaker in Columbus’s victory over Detroit.
Vermette, shooting fourth, slid a backhander between the leg pads of third-string goalie Joey MacDonald, who came on in the first period after Jimmy Howard was out with a bruised knee.
Johan Franzen had a chance to continue the shootout, but his shot was turned aside by Mason, who had 26 saves in regulation and overtime.
Devils 5, Lightning 2
At Tampa, Fla., Brian Rolston and Travis Zajac each had a goal and an assist during a four-goal first-period, and Ilya Kovalchuk scored twice for New Jersey.
Tampa Bay’s Steven Stamkos scored his 32nd goal of the season to tie Pittsburgh’s Sidney Crosby for the NHL lead. Martin St. Louis added a goal for the Lightning.
Flames 3, Senators 2
At Ottawa, David Moss scored goals 2:23 apart in the second and Calgary held on to snap a four-game losing streak with a victory over Ottawa.
Ales Kotalik scored a power-play goal late in the second for Calgary, which was on a 0-2-2 skid. Anton Babchuk assisted on both of Moss’ goals. Henrik Karlsson made 32 saves for Calgary, losing his shutout bid midway through the third.
