BC3 students praised

A few weeks before the end of the semester at Butler County Community College, some students asked where they could go for breakfast; they had a two-hour break between classes.

After being given a few suggestions for breakfast, the students were then told about a family in Butler with a very sick little boy and how it might be hard for the parents to prepare for Christmas for the four other children in the family. They were told there was an effort to gather gifts for the family, and the ages of the children were discussed.

When those students returned from their two-hour break, they had purchased several gifts for each child in the family. Rather than going for breakfast, they went shopping for a family they did not know.

This outpouring of kindness continued pretty much through the next two weeks. Other students purchased and filled stockings, more gifts were purchased, gift cards were brought in, and money was placed in envelopes as gifts to the older children.

College students do not usually have a lot of extra money, but these students stepped up to help a family in need.

Too many times, young people are typified as being self-centered. These students at Butler County Community College do not fit that description.

I am extremely thankful for these young people.
