Stemmerich

Thomas Edward “Tom” Stemmerich, 81, of Eau Claire passed away Thursday morning at the Grove City Medical Center following an illness. He had resided at the Trinity Living Center since November 2006.

Born in Branchton on July 12, 1929, he was the son of the late William Lawrence and Bertha Kelly Stemmerich.

Tom was employed by the former Cooper-Bessemer Corp., later Cooper Energy, at Grove City. He retired in 1986 after 36 years as an erector in the erecting floor department. He was a member of the United Steelworkers Local 1153.

He served with the U.S. Army from 1951 to 1953, serving 18 months in Germany.

He was a Catholic.

An avid golfer at many golf courses including Shamrock, Pine Grove, and Foxburg, he had certificates for four holes-in-one. Two were earned at Shamrock, one at Green Meadows and one in Texas.He had been a member of several bowling leagues in the Slippery Rock area, as well as being an avid hunter and fisherman. Tom possessed an unusual hobby of tossing a penny in the air and shoot a hole through the penny while airborne.He is survived by his wife, Jean Altmire Stemmerich, who he married May 21, 1955; one daughter, Stacy (Larry) Marano of Dutch Hill, near Parker; one daughter-in-law, Carol Stemmerich of Grove City; five grandchildren, Christopher and Eric Marano, both of Dutch Hill, Thomas J. (Amanda) Stemmerich and Bethany (Chris) Hindman, all of Callensburg, and Katie Stemmerich of Grove City; two step-grandchildren, Lisa (Josh) Benedict and Patrick (Shannon) Hedglin, all of Grove City; four great-grandchildren, Cameron and Audrina Stemmerich, and Sydney and Blaze Hindman; three stepgreat-grandchildren, Desirae and Cassie Hedglin, and Kylee Armstrong; one brother, Philip Stemmerich of Grove City; a number of nieces and nephews; and his pet cat, Precious.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Edward “Ed” Stemmerich in 2008, and a brother, William “Bill” Stemmerich.

Washington St., Eau Claire. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial in Eau Claire Cemetery.Members of the Parker City-Allegheny Valley Lodge 521 will conduct Masonic memorial services Sunday at 6 p.m. in funeral home. The VFW and American Legion posts of Parker will conduct a veterans memorial service at 12:30 p.m. Monday in funeral home.
