WINFIELD TWP — Concordia Lutheran Ministries has bought 138.6 acres on Route 356 known as the old Meyers Pickle Farm for $1.6 million.

The property runs from near the USX Federal Credit Union on its north side to just past Cliff Lane to the south with the southern border abutting the RecMix property.

The farm land, a house, garage, and multiple farm buildings were sold by Howard McCandless Jr.

Keith Frndak, Concordia's president and CEO, said the nonprofit organization doesn't have any certain plans for the property at this time.

“After about six months of discussion with the previous owners, we were able to come to an agreement on this attractive piece of commercial property on Route 356 in Winfield Township,” Frndak said Thursday.

“While we don't have specific plans for the property at this point, it lends itself to several future opportunities.”

In 2007, Concordia bought the 500-acre Saxony Farms for development, although nothing has been announced for that property.

“Regarding the property at Saxony Farm Estate, we have seriously discussed a number of long-term plans. However, we continue to wait for the economy to rebound to put those plans in action,” Frndak said.

Concordia's 167-acre campus in Jefferson Township offers services from retirement living to assisted living, adult day services, home care, hospice, medical and rehabilitation services, memory support, respite care, retirement living, and skilled nursing.

Concordia also has other facilities in Western Pennsylvania.

Concordia is the fifth largest elder care organization in the Pittsburgh region, based on number of beds. It is ranked the 49th largest nonprofit senior care in the nation by AAHSA-Ziegler 100, based on number of senior living units.
