Clair L. “Scrape” Glenn, 87, of West Sunbury passed away at 4 p.m. Wednesday at Butler Memorial Hospital.

“Pap's” date of passing was on the 34th birthday of his eldest grandson, the late Clair Louis Glenn.

Clair was born April 4, 1923, in Clay Township and was the son of the late Claire Campbell Glenn and Mabel Estella Black Glenn.

Clair was a member of the West Sunbury United Presbyterian Church for 75 years. Active in the church, he served as an elder, trustee and was the last living member of the present church's 1950 building committee. He dearly loved being a member of the church choir which he joined at the age of 12.

Clair retired from the Swank Construction Co. as a superintendent of bridge building. He was a member of Carpenter's Union 2274.

He was the president of the West Sunbury Borough Council for many years and also served on the Moniteau School Board.

Scrape was an avid gardener. He loved his vegetable garden, and everything he grew was shared with family, friends and neighbors.

Clair served as a turret gunner in the Army Air Corps during World War II. He flew 65 missions over North Africa, Italy and Germany. His bomber group was the first to fly over and bomb Berlin.

Scrape married Pauline Vidic Glenn on June 8, 1950, in the West Sunbury United Presbyterian Church. He and Pauline celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in June. Pauline passed away on July 29th of this year.

Scrape is survived by his two daughters, Deborah Thornbury and her husband, John, of West Sunbury, and Lucinda Grindle and her husband, Jack, of West Sunbury; one son, Gregory Glenn and his wife, Tina, of West Sunbury; eight grandchildren, Erin Hartle, Heather Bayless, Abby Klingensmith, Garrett Grindle, Zane Grindle, David Glenn, Tyler Glenn and Fontaine Glenn; and four great- grandchildren, Kyle Klingensmith, Lucy Hartle, Gracie Hartle and Sydney Bayless.

He was preceded in death by his sisters, Clara Thompson and Bertha Glenn, and his brother, Laurie Glenn.

<B>GLENN</B> — Friends of Clair L. “Scrape” Glenn, who died Wednesday. Dec. 8, 2010, will be received at the <B>William F. Young Funeral Home</B>, 132 Main St., West Sunbury from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday. Funeral services will be at the West Sunbury United Presbyterian Church at 11 a.m. Saturday with the Rev. William King officiating. Burial will be in the West Sunbury Church Cemetery.In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial donations be made to the Moniteau Food Pantry, 625 Hooker Road, West Sunbury, PA 16061.
