PHILADELPHIA — A federal appeals court is throwing out a lawsuit against former members of the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board over their rejection of a Donald Trump company's effort to obtain a Philadelphia casino license.

The 3rd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled Friday that members of the gambling oversight board are entitled to absolute, quasi-judicial immunity, and dismissed the suit filed by Keystone Redevelopment Partners.

Keystone had claimed the 2006 board decision favored local interests at the expense of out-of-town interests, because it was based on concerns that Keystone's casinos in Atlantic City, N.J., might benefit.

PITTSBURGH — A statewide poll has found that about two-thirds of Pennsylvania voters support taxing the Marcellus Shale gas industry.The poll done for the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review also found that more than half of new registered Republicans supported such a tax. The poll of 800 voters was conducted for the newspaper by Susquehanna Polling & Research and has a margin of error of 3.46 percent.In all, 63 percent said they supported a tax on natural gas drilling.Outgoing Democratic Gov. Ed Rendell had supported a gas tax, but the Legislature failed to pass it last year. Republican Gov.-elect Tom Corbett is opposed to taxing the gas industry.

PITTSBURGH — A man has been charged with disorderly conduct and defiant trespass after abandoning his car at a subway construction site in downtown Pittsburgh — but only after saying a prayer, kissing the ground and telling befuddled witnesses that he “worked for Jesus.”Port Authority of Allegheny County spokesman Jim Ritchie says 34-year-old Nowell Howie was arrested a couple blocks from the construction site. A bomb squad searched the car because of Howie's actions and because he left the car in a restricted construction zone without explanation about 1:30 p.m. Nothing was found.Ritchie says Howie, who has “multiple addresses,” was handing out money and offering prayers to people before he was apprehended.Howie was taken to be examined by the behavioral unit at the Allegheny County Jail.

UNIONTOWN — A Uniontown woman who can no longer have children will spend 2 to 4 years in prison for a plot to get her teen daughter drunk so a man could impregnate the girl.Shana Brown, 34, was sentenced Thursday by a Fayette County judge. She had pleaded guilty Oct. 4 to conspiring to put alcohol in her then 13-year-old daughter's drinks twice in 2009 so the girl could be impregnated by her alleged co-conspirator, Dwayne Calloway.Uniontown police have said Brown could no longer have children and wanted to have a baby with Calloway.As part of her plea agreement, Brown testified against Calloway — but he was acquitted of all charges last year after denying he was a part of the conspiracy.The girl was never impregnated.

PITTSBURGH — A Western Pennsylvania man who posted pro-terrorist songs and statements online before he was charged with having a loaded gun while he allegedly bit two FBI agents on Tuesday will remain jailed until a federal judge can hear the appeal of a lower judge's order to release the man to a halfway house.Federal prosecutors in Pittsburgh were expected to file that appeal Friday in the case of 21-year-old Emerson Begolly, of Natrona Heights.A federal magistrate on Thursday granted Begolly's conditional release, but delayed it a day to give prosecutors time to appeal. Instead, prosecutors were granted a stay that keeps Begolly in jail until a district court judge hears why he should or shouldn't be released pending trial.

DOYLESTOWN — A Philadelphia man who left his 15-month-old son alone in a car in a casino parking lot has been sentenced to a year and a half on probation.Donald Waige, 60, apologized through his attorney and pleaded guilty Thursday to a single count of child endangerment for leaving the toddler unattended in the parking lot of the Parx Casino in Bensalem.Prosecutors say Waige left the boy in the car for about an hour while he gambled on June 15. Police say the boy was red-faced and crying while strapped in a safety seat when officers responded. Police found Waige inside playing penny slots.Waige was also ordered to complete parenting classes.
