Albert J. Colonna

Albert J. Colonna, 88, of Friendship, formerly of Chicora, died Friday.

He was the beloved husband of Patricia R. (Bayer) Colonna; father of Rachel Milano and Maria Colonna; grandfather of five; and brother of Theresa Helmintoller and the late Henry and Frank Colonna. He also is survived by many nieces and nephews.

Albert served in the U.S. Army in Japan and Korea during World War II.

He graduated from Duquesne University, the University of Pittsburgh and Georgetown University.

He taught in the Pittsburgh Public Schools. He also was a professor of history and developmental reading at the Community College of Allegheny County for over 20 years, where he also advised Christian student groups.

He was very involved with lay apostolic work in the Catholic Church, especially in Legion of Mary chapters in Pittsburgh and Butler County, charismatic renewal prayer groups, pro-life work and as a lector and Eucharistic minister at St. Lawrence O'Toole Parish.

<B>COLONNA</B> — Friends of Albert J. Colonna, who died Friday, Dec. 3, 2010, will be received at <B>McCabe Bros Funeral Home</B>, 5300 Penn Ave., Bloomfield on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will take place Monday at 9 a.m.A Mass of Christian burial will take place in St. Lawrence O'Toole Church at 10 a.m. Monday.Additional visitation will be at <B>Steighner Funeral Home</B> in Chicora on Monday from 2 to 4 p.m., followed by interment in Hemphill Cemetery.In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Catholic Relief Services or Fellowship of Catholic University Students.
