Bauer buys Hillis Funeral Home

Family purchases the two locations

KITTANNING — Bauer Funeral Home and Cremation Services has bought Richard Hillis Funeral Home’s two locations.

Jack Bauer and his daughter, Jennifer Bauer Eroh, announced the purchase Monday. Jack represents the second generation and Jennifer the third generation of the Bauer family to operate the funeral home. The Bauers have been in business for 64 years.

Richard Hillis, who bought the Petrolia and Rimersburg locations as established funeral homes, has retired with his wife, Lucille.

“Lucille and I are honored to have served the communities of Petrolia and Rimersburg, and helped our friends in their times of sorrow. We look forward to Jack and Jennifer continuing to provide excellent service to our communities,” Hillis said in a news release.

Jack Bauer said the history and tradition makes the Hillis homes nice businesses to take over.

“Mr. Hillis served the community and did it well. The heritage of the funeral homes and the commitment to service are what we will continue to offer to these communities,” Bauer said.

Jennifer Bauer Eroh serves as president of the funeral home business, that employs seven full-time employees and another six part-time employees.

Bauer also has locations in Elderton and Dayton.
