2 teen suspects arrested
A pair of boys accused of stealing five packs of cigarettes from a West Jefferson Street convenience store at gunpoint were not even on the lam long enough to smoke them all.
According to a Butler police report issued this morning, a 14-year-old boy and a 17-year-old boy, both of Butler, were arrested Thursday in connection with the Wednesday morning robbery at A-Plus.
During that robbery, one of the robbers forced the clerk at gunpoint into a back room and onto the floor while the other robber stole five packs of Newport cigarettes.
The boys’ names were not released due to their age. Each was charged with robbery and criminal conspiracy and turned over to juvenile authorities.
The weapons used in the robbery, alleged to be soft-air pistols, were not recovered. However, clothing worn by the alleged robbers was found.
The pair allegedly walked into the A-Plus at 1:40 a.m. Wednesday wearing hooded sweatshirts, masks and gloves and carrying what appeared to be pistols.
The clerk on duty claimed he was unable to access the cash drawer or open the store’s safe and was forced into the back room of the store.
The robbery, which lasted 1 minute and 17 seconds, was captured by the store’s video surveillance cameras.
Detective Sgt. Dave Dalcamo, who is heading the ongoing investigation, had no comment this morning regarding the case.
