James Orie Stowe

James Orie Stowe, 81, of Allegheny Township passed away at 3 p.m. Friday at the VNA Inpatient Hospice, Butler, following a brief illness.

Born in Allegheny Township, March 13, 1929, he was the son of the late Orie H. and Isabell Blair Stowe.

Jim was a lifelong farmer since the age of 12. Through the years, Jim had the pleasure of farming with his wife as well as his son who continues the farm today.

He was an elder, trustee and a member of the Scrubrass Stone Church, where he also taught Sunday school years ago.

Jim served on the board of the former ASCS, the Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service for 20 years and the FHA, the Farmers Home Administration.

He was a township supervisor and secretary for 13 years before becoming a member of the school board for the Allegheny-Clarion Valley School District.

Jim and his wife were active foster parents providing care for infants in Butler County years ago.

Jim is survived by his wife, Nancy Fryman Stowe, who he married Nov. 4, 1949; one son, Charles O. (Mary) Stowe of Allegheny Township; two daughters, Valerie J. (Steve) Pieper of Allegheny Township and Vonnie J. (Bruce) Maurhoff of Lovingston Va.; two sisters, Mary Riddle of Emlenton and Dorothy Buchanan of Pittsburgh; four grandchildren, David J. Stowe, Jessica Maurhoff and fiance Jonathan and Chase and Rachel Maurhoff; step-grandchildren, Susan (Eric) Baylor, Sheila (Robert) Gothe and Tammy (Len) Elder; and four step-great-grandchildren, Rebekah and Tye Elder, Olin Gothe and Braden Baylor.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Gladys Groom; and a brother, Edward Stowe.

<B>STOWE </B>— Friends of James Orie Stowe, who died Friday, Nov. 12, 2010, may be received today from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the <B>H. Jack Buzard Funeral Home</B>, 201 S. Main St., Eau Claire. Funeral services will be Tuesday at the Scrubgrass Stone Church at 11 a.m. Interment will be at the Allegheny Cemetery, Parker.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Scrubgrass Stone Church or to the Gideons Bible organization in his memory.Online condolences may be viewed/sent at buzardfuneralhomes.com.
