Fisher

William J. Fisher, 89, of Butler, died Thursday evening at the V.N.A. Inpatient Hospice, Butler.

Born Oct. 23, 1921, in Lyndora, he was a son of the late Alex and Anna Mae Fiechuk.

He had worked as a crane operator in the Slab Mill for the Armco Steel Plant in Butler for 44 years, until his retirement in 1982.

He was a member of St. Paul Roman Catholic Church in Butler, the local beekeepers association, was an avid gardener and had enjoyed antique tractor, farming, woodworking and metal working and had fondly been referred to as an “industrial renaissance man.”

A veteran of World War II, he served with the United States Navy.

He is survived by his four daughters, Andrea Fisher of Kennesaw, Ga., Mary Theresa Fisher of Butler, formerly of Boston, Anna Maria Sheehan of Moorestown, N.J., and Barbara Holler of Bristow, Va.; four grandchildren, Daniel Sheehan, Alexandra Sheehan, Piercson Sheehan and Tori Holler; eight sisters; five brothers; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Anne Zemyan Fisher, whom he married Oct. 18, 1952. She died Dec. 4, 1995. He also was preceded in death by one sister and two brothers.
