Roomful Express in receivership

PITTSBURGH — Furniture company Roomful Express is planning a going out of business sale after an Allegheny County judge Tuesday placed the company in receivership.

The company, which has a store in Butler with about 10 employees, said in a statement that it was forced out of business because of “sustained poor market conditions and the inability to repay its financial obligations” that add up to more than $18 million.

Greg Theobald, a spokesman with the company, said the going out of business sale is likely to last several months and that all store employees would retain their jobs through that period.

He also said the company suffered double-digit revenue declines this year and that lower housing sales, combined with a poor credit environment, were significant factors in the company’s financial distress.

All of the company’s 13 locations in Western Pennsylvania and Ohio will remain open during the sale period, including the 10 stores in the region.

Customers with questions can contact Roomful Express’ customer service department at 412-444-2300, Ext. 280, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mondays through Fridays.
