BUTLER TWP — Walmart in Butler Commons Shopping Center is being considered for a wine kiosk.

The state’s Liquor Control Board is negotiating with the store to possibly lease retail space for one of the automated kiosks to sell wine.

Stacey Witalec, a PLCB spokeswoman, said the board identifies existing locations for the kiosks or new “bricks and mortar” store.

“We currently have 30 of the kiosks at this point and are looking for new retailers in which to locate more,” Witalec said.

The state looks at a retailer’s customer base, where regular liquor stores are and what kind off space the retailer could offer for the kiosk.

“Each location is unique,” she said.

The nearest full-service liquor store is in Moraine Pointe Plaza, about a mile from the Walmart.

While the state advertised the possible new kiosk location in Monday’s Butler Eagle, Witalec said that was done just to let the public know of the proposed plan.
