Donald E. Sloan, 75, of Clintonville passed away Monday at Butler Memorial Hospital after an extended illness.

Born April 30, 1935, in Cherry Valley, Venango Township, he was the son of Henry Sloan and Annie McGinnis Sloan.

Donald graduated from the Concord High School in Hooker. He also was in the Army Reserves, enlisting in April 1957.

He married Rose Hart on Oct. 20, 1956, in Sandy Lake at the Sandy Lake Presbyterian Church, and she survives.

Mr. Sloan retired from Armco Steel in Butler in 1996. He worked on the furnaces and also mixed the components for steel production.

He was a member of the East Unity Church in Venango Township, where he has been a trustee and an elder in the church.

He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, and he was an avid gardener and loved being outside.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are two sons, Ronald E. Sloan and his wife, Brenda, of Neversink, N.Y., and James R. Sloan and his wife, Denise, of Dubois; two grandchildren, Brooke and Zach Sloan of Dubois; three sisters, Betty McCurdy of Grove City, Alice Altmire of Eau Claire and Emeline Ross of Cherry Valley; and a brother, Walter A. Sloan of Grove City.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Harold Sloan.

McKinley Funeral Home</B>, 109 Emlenton St., Clintonville, Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will take place at the funeral home Thursday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Dr. Paul Shaffer, from the East Unity Church, and retired Presbyterian minister, Tom Prosser, officiating.
