Bauer

Richard B. Bauer, 73, of Butler passed away Thursday evening at his home.

He was born in Queens, N.Y., on Aug. 8, 1937, and was the son of the late John T. and Jane Burke Bauer.

He was a retired homicide detective with the New York City Police Department, where he was employed for 26Z\x years. He was also a former Butler County deputy sheriff and a former paramedic with the Butler Ambulance Service.

Richard was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in the Korean War.

He was a member of the Holy Sepulcher Roman Catholic Church, the American Legion Post 778 of Lyndora, the Fraternal Order of Police, the Emerald Society of the NYPD and the Steuben Association of the NYPD.

He is survived by his wife, Lois A. Gallagher Bauer, who he was married to for 51 years; his three sons, John C. Bauer and his wife, Judy, of Leavenworth, Kan., Richard P. Bauer and his wife, Denise, of Slippery Rock and Eric Bauer and his wife, Brigette, of Putnam County, N.Y.; his two daughters, Veronica Andrews and her husband, Donald, of Valencia and Erika A. James of Saxonburg; and his five grandchildren, Greg and Jarrett Blystone of Saxonburg, Shane and Sean Bauer of Putnam County, N.Y., and Kelly Andrews of Valencia.

He was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Tara Andrews, who passed away March 29, 2002.

Bauer, who died Thursday, Oct. 14, 2010, will be received in the <B>martin funeral home</B>, 429 Center Ave., Butler, on Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at Holy Sepulcher Roman Catholic Church in Glade Mills on Monday at 10 a.m. Burial will be in the Butler County Memorial Park.The V.F.W. Post 249 and the Lyndora American Legion Post 778 will meet at the funeral home Sunday evening at 6:45 p.m. to conduct a memorial service.Information also is available at www.martinfh.net.
